Low-Maintenance Kitchen Countertops

You’re working on your kitchen remodel but are unsure about what material to choose for your kitchen countertops. You want good-looking counters with your new cabinets and appliances, so it’s time to throw out the old and bring in the new. Whatever you choose, you want something with a long lifespan, that looks good, and can hold up to abuse. Here are some low-maintenance options to consider:

  • Laminate

Laminate is plastic. Countertops made of laminate have a very hard particle board that has plastic laminate layers bonded around it. It is a long-lasting material, which even looks like more expensive materials like marble or granite. This option is low-cost and easy to clean.

  • Solid Surface

This is a man-made material made from marble dust, acrylic, bauxite, and polyester pigments or epoxy. While it is resistant to moisture and heat, it is not stain-resistant.

  • Engineered Quartz

Though it can be more expensive than natural stone, engineered quartz is offered in more different colors and has a nonporous surface, which is good for cooking. Engineered quartz contains mostly natural quartz stone but also has resins, polymers, and pigments. It’s also easy to clean and resistant to stains.

  • Soapstone

Soapstone is a natural stone with a soapy surface. When quarried, this metamorphic rock has a lot of talc, which is reduced when the soapstone is made into a countertop. This material is durable and withstands heat, stains, and acid well. However, it is not a hard material, so while it can be simple to cut and shape, it does scratch and requires sanding every few years.

These are some good options for kitchen countertops. Quality, durability, and appearance should take priority over cost when deciding on the right material for your countertops. Choosing an option that is easy to clean and requires little to maintenance makes the investment even easier.
